What Open Ecology does for your team
Open Ecology answers site questions with cited government data, inside the AI assistant your team already uses: Microsoft 365 Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Each answer names its source and the date of the data, and gives facts with sources rather than advice. Plans and prices are on the plans page.
Ecology
Desktop work comes before the site visit, and the figures for the report come after it, often in the same week and from the same mapped data.
- Site facts for any lot: area, tenure, council and coordinates.
- Every mapped constraint on the lot and within a buffer you choose, with source and date, and a desktop appendix ready to paste.
- Threatened species recorded near the site, with their status under State law and the EPBC Act.
- The Queensland vegetation, koala and protected plants provisions that apply to the lot, quoted from the version in force.
- Report figures, and field files for Avenza Maps, QGIS or a GPS, for Queensland lots.
Environmental
Site history and the mapped facts behind a management plan.
- Dated aerial photographs of a Queensland lot back to 1994, beside the current imagery.
- The mapped constraints on and around a site for a construction environmental management plan, an erosion and sediment control plan or a rehabilitation plan.
- The lot and its constraints as field files for the site team.
Town planning
Know what applies before lodging.
- The council planning scheme in force, its amendments and any temporary local planning instruments, for Queensland councils.
- Council overlays measured on the lot, for the South East Queensland councils that license their data to Open Ecology.
- Development applications on and around a lot, where the council publishes them as open data.
- The State clearing exemptions and koala rules for the lot, quoted, with the lot's mapped facts beside each one.
Government
We are shaping these services with councils and State agencies in pilots.
- Development application screening against the site's mapped constraints and the planning scheme's codes.
- Checking an applicant's response to an information request, item by item, against what was asked.
- External review of an ecological report at a fixed price, with every finding tied to its source.
- Clearing checks against the State vegetation and protected plants laws.
Findings go to the assessing officer, and the decision stays with the officer. The home page has a worked example of a development application check.
Councils, State agencies and large firms: leave your details on the request form and we will call you to talk through a pilot and pricing.
Answers use mapped government data and are indicative only. Coverage differs by state and council, and each answer says what it covered and what it did not.
